    Nice blog.

    Some additional questions:

    - When will the frequency filing begin? Can you provide a timeline for this with start and stop date?

    - Can you tell more details about the mission timeline for commissioning?

    - Can you specify the frequency filing requirements that the ITU and/or ESA has set up?

Congrats ! Hope I can use my present GPS receiver ? If not, hope by that time I will not have to pay 2 arms and 2 legs for one that will match Galileo's output.

For sailors, the GPS system provides the fear that when navigating through shoals and reefs,
the US military will decrease accuracy or even shut down the system.

  6. Phil Ottewell says:

Congratulations on the successful, design, building and deployment of GIOVE-A. Will this show up on my GPS device or is it purely a test satellite? Great to see a Britosh company excel in this field.

    Best regards from

    Phil Ottewell

Our congratulations to the SSTL team that built this Giove-A satellite! We are delighted that the launch and deployment have been so successful. We wish you well in the matter of claiming the operating frequency allocation, too.

  10. Peter Hawkins says:

Congratulations to all at SST and all involved with the project. Here's to a sucessful commisioning and testing of the satellite and to the future of Galileo.

  11. Frank Philpot says:

    When will Galileo affect me.

Will Giove A make any direct difference to the performance of
my existing Garmin 12XL hand held sat nav system?

If not when will hand held sat nav receivers that work with
    Galileo be available.

  12. Ralph Allison says:

    Truly fantastic news!

  13. Alan Chen says:

That's awesome, congratulations on the successful launch. Have you guys started transmitting the L-band navigational signals yet?

    Thanks,
    Alan
